Endicott Captures First CHC Crown

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Endicott College defeated Morrisville State College, 1-0 in overtime to claim the 2019 Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) Championship, their first in program history. With the victory they earned the league's automatic-qualification to the NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Tournament.

Jillian Gibbs (Burlington, Vt. scored the game-winning goal in overtime to secure the 1-0 victory for Endicott and their first CHC crown. For her overtime heroics she was named the Most Valuable Player of the Championship.

The game was heavily contested from the opening puck drop with both teams having scoring chances early on.

Through three periods of play Endicott outshot Morrisville 43-25. Both goaltenders played exceptional in net as both Karoline Arvik (Trondheim, Norway) of Morrisville and Vendela Jonsson (Linkoping, Sweden) came up with key saves, several at point blank range.

Morrisville killed off two penalties in regulation while Endicott killed off one before heading into overtime.

The Gulls offense came out full blast in the overtime frame, outshooting the Mustangs 8-3.

With 11 minutes gone in the period, Maeve Moynihan (West Roxbury, Mass.) took a shot that got deflected behind the back of the Morrisville net. Jade Meier (Fairbanks, Alaska) was there to scoop the rebound and she found Gibbs in the slot for the one-timer and game-winner.

This marked the third straight season that Morrisville and Endicott clashed in the CHC Championship game with Morrisville winning the last two titles. Endicott has appeared in every CHC Championship, dating back to the inaugural game in 2016.

The NCAA Division III women's ice hockey selection show takes place on Monday at 10:00am.
