MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) weekly awards were announced for play through Sunday, February 17. Mel McAleer (Hanson, Mass.) of Nichols College and SUNY Canton's Noelle Niemiec (Staten Island, N.Y.) were recognized as Players of the Week. Nichols' Cassandra Goyette (Norton, Mass.) and Becker College's Clare Conway (Billerica, Mass.) earned Goaltender and Rookie of the Week honors respectively.
Players of the Week
Mel McAleer – Nichols College
(Sophomore, Forward – Hanson, Mass.)
McAleer tallied four goals in two CHC wins against UNE this past weekend to help Nichols secure the number two seed in the upcoming league playoffs. McAleer's four goals included the game-winner on Saturday as well as a power-play goal to open up the scoring in Friday's victory. After this weekend's offensive explosion McAleer finished the season with a team-high 31 points on 14 goals and 17 assists. Her 31 points is a single-season record for Nichols as well.
Noelle Niemiec – SUNY Canton
(Senior, Defender – Staten Island, N.Y.)
Niemiec had a monster weekend posting six points on three goals and three assists to lead the Roos to an unbeaten weekend. She totaled a goal and two assists in Friday's 4-1 win against Becker. She followed that performance by scoring twice and assisting the team's other goal in Saturday's 3-3 tie. Niemiec's third goal of the weekend tied the game with just 26 seconds remaining in regulation. The senior wraps up the regular season leading the team with 15 points and nine assists.
Goaltender of the Week
Cassandra Goyette - Nichols College
(Senior, Goaltender – Norton, Mass.)
Goyette picked up a pair of CHC wins between the pipes this past weekend against UNE. Friday night in Maine Goyette turned aside 33 shots in the 3-1 win, before stopping another 27 shots on Saturday helping the Bison clinch the No. 2 seed in the upcoming CHC playoffs. The pair of wins improves Goyette to 11-6-3 on the season and finishes the regular season with a 1.29 goals against average (GAA) and a .956 save percentage. Her save percentage is good for fifth overall in the NCAA and her GAA is 10th best in the nation.
Rookie of the Week
Clare Conway – Becker College
(Freshman, Forward – Billerica, Mass.)
The freshman forward helped the Hawks to a 3-3 draw with SUNY-Canton on Saturday, as she scored one power-play goal and assisted the other two scores for Becker. She also finished week with a +2 rating. The freshman finishes the regular season with 15 points on seven goals and eight assists. season
