MARSHFIELD, Mass. –University of New England and Morrisville State College earned their spots in the Colonial Hockey Conference (CHC) championship weekend as they earned victories in quarterfinal action this past Saturday.
The Mustangs defeated Salve Regina University, 6-1 while University of New England took down SUNY Canton, 2-0. The fifth seeded Nor'easters will square off against Endicott College while Nichols College will take on Morrisville in the semifinals.
Number one overall seed, Endicott, will host the championship weekend with semifinal action slated for Saturday, March 2 and the championship game taking place on Sunday, March 3. The winner of the Championship will receive the conference's automatic-qualification to the NCAA Division III Championship tournament.
Morrisville saw six different goal scorers in their victory with Maddision Devlin (Campbell River, B.C.), Kylie Cameron (Burlington, Ont.), Maria deWilde (Caistorville, Ont.) and Mackenzie Lombardi (Hamilton, Ont.) all recording three points apiece.
In the other semifinal tilt UNE used goals from Julianne Sheehan (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Kyra Yu (Ogden, Utah) to defeat the Roos, 2-0. Julia Benjamin (Tolland, Conn.) recorded 25 saves in net to earn the shutout victory.
Nichols faced off against Morrisville to begin CHC play back in November as the teams split the series with a win apiece. Endicott also opened their conference schedule with UNE with both teams prevailing in a game each as well. All four programs have seen changes since their last meetings; adding up to an exciting weekend of hockey in store in Beverly, Mass.
